I just got back from Conway and Jacks' music store had one of those plastic body guitars hanging on a peg for sale. I had a good chuckle when I saw it. |

Are you referring to the Ovations? Don't laugh, but I used to own several of them. The thing I liked best about them was that they didn't get out of tune very much because they resisted humidity/temperature changes. Sounded like crap to my ear though. |

Someone may correct me here, I though it was an M name like Macafferi. The top back and sides were plastic, I just plucked a string but didn't even look at the price. Interesting. |

Sounds like an old Maccaferri from the 1950's. I have one sitting in the corner of my office. It's a brown plastic body with a cream plastic top. Plastic neck/fingerboard with nylon strings and violin type tuning pegs. A tonal TPOS, but a conversation piece, nonetheless. |

I agree...plastic is not a material that I would chose for an acoustic guitar. But at least it won't get damaged in the rain or from the hummidity. I keep mine right next to the side of the pool. It sounds just fine when you're floating around with a cool drink! Acoustic Alchemy  Hey John...at least the price was right! I'll bet the shipping cost more than the guitar!!!

You'll find that the intonation on that guitar is spot on. If you have the opportunity check out the bracing as well. Even though it's plastic, it was designed and built by Mario Maccaferri, the same guy who designed the Selmer Maccaferri guitars favored by gypsy jazz guitarists (like Django Reinhardt). I have an Islander ukulele, also designed by Mario after the Martin O uke. The build quality is equal to other ukes I have costing 10 times as much. |
